As part of a first year brief I was tasked with representing the theme of ‘invertebrates’ using three semiotic forms. The iconic image is the simplest form, as it merely needed to resemble the quality of the invertebrate. The next image is an indexical image, which clearly communicated a connection to my chosen invertebrate. The final image is a symbolic- more complex than an iconic ‘doodle’. I chose to use a snail to base this project around and was able to focus on their coiled shell and their eyes, which are mounted on stalks in order to successfully portray the semiotic forms. All the final designs in this project were hand rendered.
